This 3D Glow in the Dark Solar System set is the perfect gift for kids. Having your own solar system is awesome and it gives them an appreciation for science at young age. The glow in the dark stars and planets light up at night when they are laying down – it makes for an awesome sight to see.
For the price, you can’t beat a hanging solar system for kids. All kids love having glow in the dark stars and planets in their room. Learning about the planets is fun and exciting when you have a 3D model like this hanging from the ceiling. When we were finished building ours, Jeremy sent a picture to his teacher, who also loves science as much as he does.
Putting Together the 3D Planets
Inside this solar system set the larger planets come in halves that you have to put together. The smaller planets are already assembled. There are 8 planets and 1 Sun – Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Uranus, Saturn, Neptune (no Pluto parents). There is a clear, plastic loop at the top of each piece for putting the string through.
Hanging the 3D Planets
There is some clear string that comes in the set that you need to cut into 9 different pieces. The box says to cut them about 2-feet each but if you do that, you’ll run out of string (ask me how I know). I had to grab a piece of dental floss for Uranus, I know that sounds really bad!
You Need Thumb Tacks for Hanging Your Planets!
The string goes through the hole at the top of the planet. You have to tie the string in a few knots to make sure it’s secure.
Inside the box, you get some putty that you’re suppose to use to hang the planets and stars from the ceiling. We found that the bigger planets were too heavy for the putty provided so we ended up using thumb tacks. You have to tie the string that’s connected to the planet around the thumb tack in order to hang it from the ceiling securely. We used the putty provided to hang the glow and the dark stars and moons that came with the solar system set.
